Leland Melvin is a space engineer, former astronaut, and potential witness to an alien event. Melvin claims to have seen something suspiciously alien-like while on a mission. In fact, it was so bizarre that he called NASA in order to get some clarification. So, what did he see, and is it anything we need to be worried about?

The Question

Given that Melvin has spent over 565 hours in space, been on the Space Shuttle Atlantis, delivered equipment to the International Space Shuttle, and is active on social media, it makes sense that regular folks ask him questions online. One such inquiry was about whether or not he’d ever seen aliens or UFOs while traveling through outer space. Unsurprisingly, the astronaut’s answer only led to more questions.

The Answer

Melvin answered the question by writing on Twitter, “I have not seen one in space or on the ground but thought I saw something organic/alien-like floating out of the payload bay, and I called the ground to ask what it could be and it was ice that had broken off of the Freon hoses. Translucent, curved, organic looking.” Naturally, people asked the follow-up question of whether or not Melvin thought NASA had lied to him when explaining what he’d seen. The astronaut replied, “Don’t think so but you never know.”
